The Union de Cooperativas Agropecuarias de Servicios Unidos de Mancotal (UCASUMAN) was founded in June 20, 2001 in Jinotega, Nicaragua. UCASUMAN is a union of just over 400 members and is formed by both male and female coffee farmers. Several farmers are also harvesting basic grains and raise cows in efforts to diversify and gain higher incomes to generate a better standard of living for their workers, families and communities. The Fair Trade premium allows the cooperative to invest back into their community through investments and training of the members through social development initiatives.
